Nothing of substance to add. Just my view that - if it’s programming I enjoy (like Christian radio), then I’ll gladly donate. Don’t use my tax dollars.
Yes, as we're discovering in so many other areas, the amount of government subsidy and funding has been out of control, undermining not only the financial free market, but in this case, the free market of ideas as well.
Totally agree that if a "free" press is dependent on government subsidies, then they are not "free". Also agree that my money should not be forcibly taken (which is what taxes are) to support media of any bias. If it is a bias I agree with, I can voluntarily support it.
I just can't believe we've lived with this for decades now - through multiple administrations of both stripes - and it's just now coming to this. My thought: now do Planned Parenthood.
Going back into the classroom after having been retired ten years, I encountered some gently-parented high school students whose behavior and demeanor presented a totally different picture of classrooms that I had been accustomed to. I was saddened to observe how these students (and their parents’ view that “my expectations were far too high”) pulled down those students who were there to actually learn.
Thanks for your thoughts here and sorry for your experience, but it definitely illustrates the effect parenting philosophies can have not only on one's own kids, but other kids as well.
